Provident Hospital Chiller and HVAC-3 Cooling Upgrade

OWNER: Cook County Government
CLIENT: Cook County Health and Hospital System (CCHHS)
PROJECT: Provident Hospital Chiller and HVAC-3 Cooling Upgrade
SERVICES: Mechanical Job Order Contract (JOC)
LOCATION: Chicago, IL
CONSTRUCTION START: May 2021
COMPLETION: October 2021

Autumn was tasked to provide a turn-key chiller and cooling system upgrade for a key operating suite at Provident Hospital.  The Autumn team, including RTM Engineers, investigated existing mechanical and electrical systems conditions before selecting a 210 Ton state-of-the-art air-cooled, Quantech chiller system to replace and upgrade the existing 60 Ton system.  The project presented several challenges including confirming that the existing structural design of the building can support the upsized chiller and associated equipment, addressing existing asbestos-containing materials, and providing temporary cooling and electrical equipment to keep the operating rooms online during the construction phase. This project is being fast-tracked under the Countywide Job Order Contract (JOC) Program between Cook County and Autumn.

The Chiller and HVAC-3 Cooling Upgrade Project at Provident Hospital was put into full operation in late September 2021.  As a result, hospital staff and patients at Provident have felt improved cooling, air movement, and humidity control in Provident Operating Suites. We thank our partners – Any Temperature HVAC, Sharlen Electric, Trane Company, RTM Engineering, and Cook County Health and Hospital Systems for their efforts helping us to achieve on-time completion of this fast-tracked project.
