PROJECT: Roberto Clemente High School MEP Cooling Systems Renovations

LOCATION: Roberto Clemente Community Academy, Chicago, IL

CONSTRUCTION START: April 2024

COMPLETION: August 2024

Autumn Construction Services is upgrading the chilled water and condenser water systems at CPS Roberto Clemente Community Academy High School.

The mechanical scope of work includes the removal and replacement of two 700-ton Daikin water-cooled chillers, the replacement of modified chilled water and condenser water pumps, and the installation of new chilled and condenser water piping.

To facilitate the removal and installation of chillers at the mechanical penthouse, an 18’10” x 10’3”, fully insulated, aluminum construction, thermally broken roof hatch, manufactured by Bilco, was installed on the 9th-floor penthouse roof. Once the new chillers were set in place, the piping work was completed, and the chillers were operational in time for the start of summer school in June 2024. The project also included new piping between the chillers and the cooling tower and the replacement of chilled water control valves and devices.

Blackhawk HVAC is leading the mechanical team as the HVAC ventilation and insulation contractor for the project.
