ORD Terminal 5 Miscellaneous Mechanical Upgrades

OWNER: City of Chicago – Department of Aviation
CLIENT: Austin Power Partners
PROJECT: ORD Terminal 5 Miscellaneous Mechanical Upgrades, O’Hare International Airport
LOCATION: Chicago, IL
CONSTRUCTION START: May 2021
COMPLETION: January 2023

Autumn is providing miscellaneous mechanical upgrades for ORD Terminal 5 Heating Systems and Controls Upgrade Project. Our team is providing upgrades for terminal and concourse hold rooms, gate areas, airline operational areas, and concessions spaces.

Autumn’s contract includes the replacement of 350+ existing VAV boxes complete with piping and controls. Additionally, we are tasked with replacing temperature control valves and piping trim at 600 terminal units (cabinet unit heaters, fan coils, radiant panels, finned tube radiation, and secondary pumping systems).

The prominent challenges on this multi-phased project have been to (1) itemize each piece of existing equipment scheduled for replacement and (2) maximize work execution during the 20-month schedule while minimizing impact and disruption to passenger comfort and airport operations. This project is a part of the $1.2 billion ORD 21 Terminal 5 Expansion and Modernization program currently underway at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
