PROJECT: Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon

LOCATION: Chicago, IL

COMPLETION: April 2015

In 2015, the Chicago Park District completed the $60-million renovation of the northeastern part of Grant Park, transforming the former Richard J. Daley Bicentennial Plaza parking garage and recreational facilities into the now famously whimsical and architecturally interesting, Maggie Daley Park. Winding within Maggie Daley Park is a quarter-mile ice skating ribbon, which can hold up to 700 skaters at a time.

Autumn Construction Services was hired to install mechanical systems for the ice skating ribbon. We worked with the Walsh Construction team to install the hot water heating system and temperature controls. This mechanical system melts ice shavings and excess snowfall to keep the ice clean and skate-ready.  Autumn was the prime mechanical contractor for this work scope, including HVAC and temperature controls.
