Buckingham Fountain Mechanical System Improvements
Autumn is proud to be working with F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen and Independent Mechanical Industries on mechanical and controls improvements for Buckingham Fountain. This Chicago landmark was dedicated in 1927 and contains 1.5 million gallons of water. Autumn will be installing fountain feature control valves and piping, four-way pilot valves, and a water booster along with providing start-up services.
Mechanical O & M Services for the Chicago Public Schools
Autumn has been pre-qualified by the Board of Education of the City of Chicago to perform Mechanical Operations and Maintenance – Pipe Fitter Services for the Chicago Public Schools. The Chicago Public Schools system has an enrollment of more than 400,000 students in 675 schools with an annual operating budget of $5.3 billion.
FedEx Cargo Fuel System Tie-In
Autumn is providing mechanical contracting and construction management support services to Meccon Industries, Inc. for the FedEx Cargo Fuel System Tie-In project at O’Hare International Airport. Autumn Pipe Fitters will assist Meccon in building more than 2000 feet of pipeline to connect FedEx’s Cargo Fuel Hydrant System to the Airport’s new Cargo Fuel Distribution System which was successfully completed by Autumn and Meccon in January, 2011. Autumn’s construction management support services include providing a project safety professional and project quality oversight.
Terminal 1 Holdroom HVAC Upgrades
For this future O’Hare Capital Improvement Project, under design by Ghafari, at O’Hare International Airport, Autumn is providing field verification of existing conditions and coordinating preparation of construction phasing for the Terminal 1 holdroom areas with representatives from United Airlines and the Chicago Department of Aviation. The project design by the Autumn/Ghafari team includes upgrades to heating and cooling systems, lighting, and ceilings in passenger waiting areas. Construction of this project is anticipated to occur in 2012.
FedEx Aircraft Maintenance Building Air Compressor System
Autumn was awarded a contract to build-out an air compressor system by FedEx at its new Aircraft Maintenance Building at O’Hare International Airport. The Aircraft Maintenance Building is part of the FedEx Metroplex relocation required by the construction of Runway 10C-28C.
Area 5 Police Headquarters Cooling Tower Replacement
Autumn is pleased to be working with Anchor Mechanical Inc. on the Chicago Department of General Services’ Area 5, CMSS, North & Throop Energy Upgrades project. Autumn’s scope included replacement of the 30 year old cooling tower and condenser water piping at the Chicago Area 5 Police Headquarters.
Retro-Commissioning for University of Chicago Medical Center
Autumn is working with Grumman/Butkus Associates to provide retro-commissioning services for the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine. This 525,000 gsf building contains six floors plus the mechanical penthouse and is the second largest of the 244 buildings on the University’s 190-acres campus.
Fire Protection Upgrade of American Airlines’ Hangar No. 1
Autumn has been selected by American Airlines to provide Project Management services for the Fire Protection Upgrade of Hangar No. 1 at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
Kirie Water Reclamation Plant Diffuser System
Autumn is pleased to be working alongside IHC Construction at the James C. Kirie Water Reclamation Plant in Des Plaines. Autumn’s mechanical scope includes the installation of a coarse bubble diffuser system at the plant. The Kirie Plant was completed in 1980 and has the design capability of processing 72 million gallons of wastewater per day.
Chicago Park District’s Harriet Harris Park
Autumn has been hired by Anchor Mechanical Inc. to install a chiller and a boiler at Harriet Harris Park in Chicago. This is our first mechanical contracting project for the Chicago Park District.
Commissioning Services for Concourse K Extension at O’Hare International Airport
Autumn has been selected by American Airlines to provide construction administration and commissioning services for the HVAC Modifications of the lower level offices located in Concourse K of O’Hare International Airport’s Terminal 3.
Commissioning Services for Chicago Federal Building
Autumn has been hired by Madison Services, Inc. to perform commissioning for the upgrade of HVAC systems and lighting controls at the Federal Building located at 536 S. Clark Street, Chicago.
Tim Gallagher Joins Autumn
Autumn Construction Services, Inc. is pleased to announce that Timothy J. Gallagher has joined the company as General Superintendent for mechanical contracting work. Mr. Gallagher possesses invaluable expertise garnered over 30 years as a Local 597 Pipe Fitter and Project Manager with one of the Chicago area’s premier mechanical contractors. He has worked on and led projects for many public agencies including the Chicago Department of Water, Chicago Department of Aviation, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago as well as on private client projects. Mr. Gallagher is an Executive Board member for Local 597 and has served as a two term delegate to the Chicago Federation of Labor and Local 597 Examining Board.

Autumn Adds Mechanical Contracting Services
Autumn Construction Services, Inc. announces the addition of Mechanical Contracting to the firm’s service offering. Autumn will self-perform mechanical piping and equipment installation work as a signatory to Pipe Fitters Local 597 UA Agreement. Autumn is certified as a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) with the City of Chicago, Cook County and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and as a certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) through the Illinois Unified Certification Program (ILUCP).
Facility Assessment of 79 W. Monroe, Chicago
Chicago’s Department of General Services has hired our team led by R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. to provide a comprehensive assessment of the 14-story building located at 79 W. Monroe. This building was constructed in 1906 and consists of 171,000 rsf of office and retail space. Autumn will be performing an assessment of the Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems along with producing cost estimates.
City of Chicago’s Recycling Sorting Centers – Facility Inspections
The Department of General Services has hired our team led by R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. to provide comprehensive facility inspections of three Department of Streets and Sanitation’s Recycling Sorting Centers. Autumn will be providing inspections and evaluations of the MEP and fire protection systems.
O’Hare Cargo Fuel System Replacement
Autumn has been hired by Meccon Industries, Inc. to assist with the management of the O’Hare Cargo Fuel System Replacement project. The project involves decommissioning of the existing cargo fuel/glycol storage and dispensing systems and construction of a complete cargo storage and dispensing facility including tanks, piping, pumps, utilities and cathodic protection. Autumn’s services include project management, quality and safety related professional services.
Vertical Conveyors at O’Hare’s Terminal 3
Autumn has been hired by American Airlines to provide an assessment of thirty-nine vertical conveyors in Concourses H, K and L of O’Hare’s Terminal 3. The assessment includes identification of primary equipment, determination of the maintained condition and estimation of remaining life expectancy of major components and making recommendations for modernization based upon industry and code standards.
Cook County Fire & Life Safety System Upgrade
Autumn has been hired by WMA Consulting Engineers, LTD. to perform construction administration and progress reporting of the Countywide Fire & Life Safety System Upgrade – Package 7. The buildings include Department of Corrections’ buildings at 26th and California as well as four buildings in the Maywood campus including the Courthouse. This project began in April, 2008 and is expected to continue until November, 2009.
Elevator Rehabilitation – Passenger Centers 2 through 5
Autumn’s project manager, as part of the Chicago Airports Resources Enterprise joint venture, managed the renovation of 22 7-story traction elevators at O’Hare International Airport. These elevators move the traveling public from the Elevated Parking Structure to the Terminal Buildings.
Escalator Modernization
Autumn’s project manager, as part of the Chicago Airports Resources Enterprise joint venture, managed the modernization of 17 escalators throughout O’Hare’s Terminals 1, 2 and 3 as well as the Airport Transit System platforms.
Children’s Memorial Institute for Education and Research Laboratory Building
On a state-of-the-art biological research facility, located on the Children’s Memorial campus, Autumn provided building systems coordination services as part of the general contractor’s on-site project team. This challenging project had a 9 month construction schedule. The project’s systems included specialty laboratory equipment and fixtures and operating rooms that contained medical and laboratory gas systems, specialty ventilation and lighting systems. Autumn and the team worked with project subcontractors and the project architect and engineers to complete the building one month ahead of schedule.
Candle Manufacturing Facility

Autumn provided on-site M/E/P coordination services to Leopardo Construction for a 122,000 SF manufacturing facility in Batavia, IL. Completion of piping, electrical and controls work was achieved two months ahead of schedule, allowing Candle Corporation to accelerate their systems start-ups and candle production. Candle Corporation is the parent company for PartyLite home candle party sales.
4th Municipal Courthouse Renovation
Autumn provided construction observation and inspection for the $2.5 Million renovation of mechanical, electrical, security and communications systems for courtrooms, judges’ chambers and prisoner holding areas at the Maywood Courthouse of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Autumn was hired by the Architect/Engineer to conduct the weekly on site project meeting and to prepare meeting minutes and reports.
Midway Airport Terminal Development Program
Autumn was a member of the program management team that managed this $738 million project over 8 years. The program included the total redevelopment of Chicago’s Midway Airport increasing size and capacity from 28 to 43 jet gates, including new public and employee parking facilities, the addition of Federal Inspection Services for international flights, new apron and taxiways, ground transportation facilities, and development of new central heating and refrigeration plant.
Autumn provided building systems expertise during the planning, design and construction of the program. Responsibilities included coordinating and development and management of all technical issues related to the privatization of the Midway central heating and refrigeration plant.
O’Hare’s Concourse G Renovation
Autumn provided program management services to American Airlines’ prime consultant for the renovation of the concourse and operations levels of the Concourse G building including 18 jet gates. Specifically, Autumn provided the building systems expertise during the development, design and construction of this $54 million project over the span of three years. Responsibilities included scope and budget development, coordination of design and construction issues as related to building systems and witnessing commissioning of all building systems and equipment. Autumn facilitated the development of project phasing and schedules to ensure that no more than two gates would be closed at any time. Autumn was the primary interface between the City of Chicago’s Department of Aviation, American Airlines, American Eagle, the design team and the prime contractor.
Terminals 2 and 3 Air Handling Unit Replacement Project
Autumn Construction Services, Inc. (Autumn) was a subconsultant to the construction manager/prime contractor (Hill Mechanical Corp.). The $30 Million project included the complete replacement of 42 air handling unit systems located in the mechanical penthouses of Terminals 2 and 3. Autumn provided a part-time project engineer on site over a period of 29 months to perform all aspects of construction management including management of project paperwork, submittals, pay requisitions, MBE/WBE/EEO documentation and daily correspondence. Autumn also assisted in the development and execution of the commissioning program for the project as well as developed and managed the project schedule using Primavera software.
Energy Transfer Stations
Autumn was hired by Exelon Thermal Technologies to oversee mechanical and electrical systems design, bidding and construction of mechanical cooling system retrofits to enable Chicago Loop buildings to accept chilled water from Exelon’s central plant and energy distribution system. Responsbilities included coordinating issuance of contracts and purchase orders, monitoring progress, reviewing and resolving design and construction issues, liaising with building owners, contractors and Exelon on project issues and system start up.
New Prentice Women’s Hospital at Northwestern Memorial Hospital
For this $450 million construction project, Autumn provided project engineering services for the $20 million mechanical piping contract as part of the mechanical contractor’s project team. Autumn’s services included assisting in preparation of the project estimate and bid, piping systems material and equipment evaluation and purchase, submittal preparation, and review of design revisions and preparation of estimates for changes in the work. Autumn was involved with this project during the bidding and early construction phases.
